Jo Talbot Bowen Painter/Printmaker

I am very fortunate to live and work on the South Devon coast by the Exe estuary near Exeter. My studio is based on the site of an old dairy farm which I have helped to restore with my husband Matthew.

I like to focus my painting and printmaking on my everyday life, whether in the adjacent vineyard, the local fields and hedges or the estuarine landscape. Our increasingly urban, mind-based and often fast moving existence can lead us to be disconnected from animal life and the pace of nature. I believe it is important to pay homage to what we may no longer feel for or notice especially in our countryside, whether managed or wild.

Recently my work has been progressing using the medium of oil paint on aluminium. In the print room I am experimenting successfully with photogram and solar printing on both paper and velvet supports.
