HISTORY AND LOCATION

Nestled alongside Lyme Bay in beautiful Budleigh Salterton , Devon is Salterne Studio This 'creative nest by the sea' was founded in 2019 by fine artist Jo Talbot Bowen. It's situated in the old coach house of the holiday home of the famous 18/19th century General Simcoe who founded modern day Toronto, Canada.

PARKING: I suggest parking on the side of road up the hill from the studio. Alternatively there are good town and beach car parks- follow the signs! 

What to Do and See Locally

• Visit the Tourist Information Office: Just a minutes walk from the studio and see the Budleigh town website a visit and suggested itineraries if you are coming for the day.

• Staying: Hotels are numerous in the area including: many in Exeter, Lympstone Manor, The Pig at Gittisham. there is a landmark trust property for one at  St Peter's Tower The landmark Trust (Lympstone), and several excellent B and B or air B and B locally. Camping is at Ladram bay and smaller local farm sites. 

• Yummy to eat: Don't forget our great, for example  L'Image and Milena cafes on the high street. there are several good local pubs. Many beach cafes are good by the beach, also go to Otterton Mill for divine cream teas and brunch/lunch 

• Places to walk: Numerous world class walks are recommended: the Jurassic Coast UNESCO sites via the SW UK Coastal footpath. River Otter walks are also very special- watch out for the upstream Beavers in the evening. 

• Other artwork: The town (and Sidmouth, and Exeter) has several galleries with a range of interesting local inspired work on view. Otterton Mill has a crafts shop. Devon Artist Network hosts a County wide Open Studios event each September. There is a wonderful independent town museum housed in a Georgian thatched house, called The Fairlynch.
