Artist's statement
My botanical paintings and works on glass focus on portraying the beauty of nature, and our relationship with the elements that create nature. I hope to draw you in to a multi-layered and patterned space of discovery about yourself as much as the natural world that we are all part of.
Taking time to peer through a natural landscape- high up or low down- we can start to feel more connected with what we might find there: a hint of a new habitat or a sense of being. We might see a bit of ourselves in a new light, carved out in the niches and crannies of the fields on top of the Jurassic rocks, and the Rivers Otter or Exe inlets, not forgetting also the reflective pathways out to sea where the lighthouse, buoys, fishing vessels or international shipping lanes sometimes blink at us at night.
I live and work by the East Devon seaside, in touch with the warm red cliffs, the smoothed pebbled commons and lush farmlands which Devon is well known for. The gulls, crows and pigeons abound and always somewhere near are a fox, vole, and the hum of visiting bees on the hellebore, myrtle, lavender, rose, ivy or a tuft of moss. These are my everyday enchantments. I celebrate them in colourfully lit scenes through my art.
Do visit my shows in my studio or hear more about my work through my 'behind the scenes' talks to your groups. See my Instagram for my latest news or work too. I am always happy to arrange for those interested and collectors to see my work and discuss commissions or collaborations. I also collaborate with musicians and play lute ( see the page on my website menu )
